The journey is favorably underway. Here I am, 31 days since the start of my internship with Caren West PR and whoa, have I learned a great deal so far. From day one, I was literally thrown in sans life vest into the vastness of PR life. I'm not sure who told us that PR was all parties and beer but it is not. At least not everyday. Public relations is the business of people. We are the managers. We are damage control. We are the informants. In this role, we help businesses shine. And from reading my blog, you're already aware that helping people shine their light is what I love. I've faced challenges, brick walls, molehills, stumbling blocks, you name it. I deal with a wide range of emotions on a daily basis but this is what I've asked for. I needed to be shaken up and awaken from the slumber that was my life. I want to be challenged. I want to make mistakes and learn from them. I want to grow.I'd love to share with you a few things that I'm learning about being an intern through this internship.

5 Things I'm Learning from Being an Intern

1. ORGANIZATIONTo-do lists are so real. Things can get messy pretty quickly. It's easy to get overwhelmed if you don't have a process to get things under control. Do what works for you.2. TIME MANAGEMENTWorking PR is a 24/7 job. There's no way around that. I don't work everyday, but I do work everyday. The work is never done. Proper planning of your time is conducive to productivity, effectiveness and priorities.3. PRIORITIESWhat needs to be done now vs what needs to be done RIGHT NOW. If you're not given direction, figure out what is most pressing and tackle it first. Your call.4. TENACITYMean business and stick to your guns. Don't give up easily. Be resolute when faced with challenges. Push through.5. HARD WORKPoint blank, you won't survive without this. If you like to complain and make excuses, this isn't for you. If you like being told what to do, find another profession. Go above and beyond what you are asked to do. You want to be remembered, don't you?--My friends say, "I don't get it. Don't you just write a tweet and hit send?" No, I don't. I do karate with words in my brain. I slice and dice em with invisible machetes. I research what information works best for each client. I strategize how to promote information so that it is effective. Then...I tweet. It's not that easy. Thankfully, I never asked for easy. Easy doesn't get you the dream job. Easy only leads to an unfulfilled life.PR is a hands-on job and a full-time commitment. It constantly requires you to be on your toes, stay present and current. I can say that I'm excited. I don't know what tomorrow holds but each day, I'm better than I was the day before.
