Lucy's Pearls Travels: Savannah, GA

All work and no play make for a very overwhelmed and uninspired Lucy Pearl. Equipped with a laundry list of things to do and see, I decided to take an impromptu midweek trip to Savannah, Georgia for a few hours. I was craving time to recharge and to appreciate life.Due to time constraints, I wouldn't realistically have been able to appreciate everything Savannah had to offer but I made the most of my trip. I ate and did my share of sight-seeing and people-watching. That was more than enough.savannah georgia You can't go to Savannah without stopping by Paula Dean's restaurant, The Lady and Sons. I'm well aware that her popularity is in the stinker right now but I don't hold any grudges when it comes to food. I ordered the shrimp and grits and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. Paula isn't known to shy away from lard; this dish is meant to be eaten right away or else you'll be left with a greasy mess. Not a cloud in the sky until I got to Tybee Island in the evening. Thank goodness.savannah georgiasavannah georgiaI bought a new bathing suit especially for this trip but the storm clouds did finally roll in. We literally only got thirty minutes, tops, to enjoy the moment.savannah georgiaI can't recall the last time I sunk my toes into balmy sand or felt crisp waves crashing around my feet. There's something about being surrounded by water that calms me. Like for real, I'll sometimes take a shower just to relax. It's so soothing.savannah georgiasavannah georgiasavannah georgiaIt doesn't take much to make me happy. Being one with nature is one of those things that gets me giddy. I desperately needed to get away so I'm thankful for friends who are down to ride at the drop of a hat. I'm bottling up those memories and saving them forever. When was the last time you strayed from your typical routine and did something to lift your spirit?Photos by Ben Styles
